Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA)
The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) came from the Social Care Green Paper ‘Independence, wellbeing and choice.’ It was reinforced in the Health White Paper, ‘Our health, Our Care, Our say.’
The Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 specifies that local authorities and Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) produce a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) of the health and wellbeing of the local community.
In 2008 Hertfordshire PCTs and Hertfordshire County Council worked together to produce a joint view of health, social care and related needs, in line with national expectations. The document is wide ranging, and provides information on which commissioning decisions can be based. The findings from this needs assessment have also influenced the development of the Hertfordshire Sustainable Communities Strategy, and the selection of target areas for the second “Local Area Agreement”
