Population

The most up-to-date Population estimates are the Registrar General's mid year population estimates, these provide annual breakdowns of the population into sex and age in 5 year age groups for local authority areas. Estimates for other geographic areas are also available, for further information please select the link entitled Population estimates (on the right hand side of the screen).

More detailed statistics in terms of subject areas and geographical areas are available from the National census, the latest of which was held in 2001. Preparation is underway for the 2011 Census which is due to take place in March 2011. For further information please select the links entitled 2001 Census or 2011 Census (both on the right hand side of the screen).

Projections of population in the future are available for local authority areas. For further information please select the link entitled Population projections (on the right hand side of the screen).
